A GP’s Guide to Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow, medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition seen by general practitioners characterised by pain and tenderness on the outer side of the elbow. While its name suggests a connection to tennis, it can occur due to various repetitive arm movements, not just tennis strokes. Patients often experience pain during activities involving gripping or lifting, along with potential weakness in the affected arm. The condition typically arises from overuse or repetitive stress on the tendons attaching the forearm muscles to the outer elbow.
